Any Exiting Photo you want to add to your Photo Stream can be uploaded using the Dropbox App. Upload it to the Dropbox folder you configured as Photo Stream”Upload Folder” for iCloud. Not necessary but if you want anybody near your computer can add an image to Upload Folder and it will be synced with your photo stream.
Camera uploads is an optional feature that automatically uploads photos from your mobile device to Dropbox.
- To synchronize your iPhoto library between your Mac with either service, you'll need to locate the file for the existing iPhoto library in your Pictures folder. Copy the iPhoto Library file.
- How to Upload iPhone or iPad Photos to Dropbox Manually Step #1. Open Dropbox → We’re going to create a new folder where we’ll upload the photos. This way, you can see the photos easily.
- Click the Dropbox icon in the menu bar. Click the gear icon & checkmark all the options in the menu. Select the import tab. Click 'Import Photos from iPhoto'.

Desktop: Turn camera uploads on or off
When you plug a camera (or mobile device) into a computer with the Dropbox desktop app installed, you’ll see a prompt asking if you’d like to enable camera uploads for that device. Once you accept, that device will automatically upload your camera roll each time the device is plugged in to that computer.
You can also turn camera uploads on or off with the following steps:
- Click the Dropbox icon in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
- Click your avatar (profile picture or initials).
- Click Preferences….
- Under Backups check the box next to Enable camera uploads for.
- Choose Photos only or Photos and videos from the dropdown.
System requirements for camera uploads
To use camera uploads, we recommend a supported device and the latest version of the Dropbox desktop or mobile app. Camera uploads doesn’t work if your mobile device battery is too low or if it’s roaming.

Background uploading
Background uploading allows Dropbox to upload photos even when the Dropbox app is closed. It automatically uploads your photos whenever it detects a change in your device’s location.
If you have an Android device, you can prevent photos from uploading when your device’s battery is low.
- Navigate to the Camera uploads page in the Dropbox mobile app.
- Tap Background uploading.
- Use the slider to select the battery level or toggle Only while phone is charging to on.
- Tap OK.
You will get limited space to store your photos and videos if you are using the free Dropbox cloud service. In this situation, your Dropbox space will be exhausted quickly in case you have turned on automatic camera uploads on iPhone or iPad. Hence, it is only wise to disable automatic camera upload in Dropbox on iOS and Mac.
How to Turn Off Dropbox Automatic Camera Uploads on iOS
NOTE: In the absence of automatic camera upload, you can manually upload your photos to Dropbox from an iOS device.
- Open Dropbox on your iPhone or iPad
- By default, you are on the Home screen of the app. Tap on Account button from the bottom right corner.
- Now tap on Camera Uploads under the Features section
- Here, turn off Camera Uploads toggle, which is the very first option.
Dropbox will stop uploading photos automatically from your iPhone or iPad.
How to Disable Dropbox Automatic Camera Uploads on Mac
When you connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac (with a Dropbox desktop app installed), a pop-up may ask if you wish to enable camera uploads for that device. Upon accepting this request, your iOS device will automatically upload photos and videos from camera roll each time you connect the device to your Mac. You can turn off Dropbox automatic camera uploads on your Mac as well.
- On your Mac, click Dropbox icon from the menu bar.
- Now, click your profile picture.
- Next, click Preferences.
- Under Import tab, uncheck the box next to Enable camera uploads for.
